Mississippi denies Allstate rate increase

Mississippi officials have rejected a request from AllState Property and Casualty Insurance Co. to more than double insurance rates for 51,000 homes statewide.

Mississippi Treasurer Tate Reeves says the state’s latest tobacco settlement collection was more than $8 million below expectations.
Reeves sent Gov. Haley Barbour a letter about the shortfall on Wednesday.
